The AS interface (AS-i) power extender, in combination with masters of protection class IP 65/67, permits decentral AS-i networks to be set up at maximum extension.

Use of AS-i power supply units of a high protection class is not required. By means of a new power distribution concept, ranges of up to 100 m are possible even in decentral AS-i networks.

The distribution unit is directly installed in the field in the immediate vicinity of the master or gateway, of protection class IP65.

In traditional designs, for reasons of cost the power supply unit was installed in terminal boxes.

The AS-i power extender receives 30 VDC from a central power supply. Through an isolating network the device provides the AS-i voltage at its output side.

If there is a low voltage level at the input side of the extender, an AS-i network of limited extension can still be operated.

Integral LEDs give information on the level of the voltage, and this in turn makes it possible to determine the maximum possible distance which can be effectively connected.
