Electronex show headed for sellout

Friday, 20 August, 2010

The new electronics industry expo ‘Electronex’, which is being held at the Australian Technology Park in Sydney from 8-9 September, has been welcomed by electronics suppliers that are excited about the opportunity to have their own dedicated trade event in Australia.

Electronex - The Electronics Design and Assembly Expo - is organised by Australasian Exhibitions and Events (AEE) in association with The Surface Mount and Circuit Board Association (SMCBA) and will include a dedicated industry trade show and technical conference.

Electronics engineers and decision makers throughout Australia, New Zealand and SE Asia are invited to attend and will be able to see an extensive range of products and services as well as seek advice and find solutions for their specific needs and applications.

The expo will cover all aspects of electronics assembly, design, test, measurement and repair for OEMs, PCB assemblers, aviation and defence, R&D, scientific and medical, education, contract manufacturing, and service and repair.

The exhibition will open to all sectors of the electronics industry. The Technology Park venue also encourages exhibitors and visitors to network in a more relaxed environment and to spend more time on one-on-one discussions.

Noel Gray, Managing Director of AEE, said:

“We are delighted with the response and will have over 50 companies exhibiting with a large number of these participating at an industry show for the first time.

“With the show virtually sold out, we are seeing a number of companies that had not participated in events for a number of years returning to exhibit as they recognise the advantages of being involved in a specialised show where they will only be meeting visitors that are interested in their products and services.”

Andrew Pollock from the SMCBA said the success of this event is extremely important to the industry because electronics products are used by almost every other industry sector - agriculture, mining, motor vehicles, whitegoods, scientific and medical, sport and leisure, building, manufacturing and education.

Running concurrently with the show will be the ‘Surface Mount 2010 Conference’ for electronics design and manufacture.

The show will be open from 10 am to 6 pm on Wednesday 8 September and 9 am to 6 pm on Thursday 9 September 2010. Visitors can pre-register at the expo website www.electronex.com.au.

Exhibitor highlights

A number of companies at Electronex will be featuring new products and technology. The following is a sample of some of what will be on show and was correct as we went to press.

Hawker Richardson will be introducing the DEK Horizon platform which offers freedom of choice to configure a screen printer.

Tekmark Australia offers advanced electronics test and measurement and monitoring solutions and is the Australian distributor for Tektronix. Included in its range is the MSO70000 mixed signal oscilloscope.

HETECH is an established Australian electronics design and manufacturing company that takes care of every aspect of product development from concept to final product including design, prototyping, component sourcing, documentation, compliance testing, manufacture and technical support.

SATCAM will demonstrate T-Tech’s auto tool changing QCJ5 with vacuum table technology and air-cushioned depth-of-cut control. These two innovations combine to make circuit board prototyping even easier, quicker and more precise.

Machinery Forum will show a range of equipment including the HR 100 ERSA hybrid rework system that introduces heating that combines infrared and convection heating in one hand tool for soldering and de-soldering densely packed SMT components.

ONBoard Solutions will feature the QUICK 865AD rework station with a rated heating power output of 1.3 kW, temperature range of 100-500°C, full digital control of airflow, air temperature and heating time.

Vicom will demonstrate a range of oscilloscopes from WaveMaster and LeCroy. The WaveMaster 8 Zi is claimed as the world’s fastest real-time scope.

GPC Electronics has invested in new equipment to meet the needs of miniaturised products. 0402 components were once considered to be at the leading edge of electronic package miniaturisation, but packages of 0201 and 01005 (0.4 x 0.2 mm) are now available.

Emona Instruments is launching the Rigol DS6000A range of 1 GHz and 600 MHz bandwidth oscilloscopes with two and four channels. High-speed 5 GS/s digitisers and extremely long record length of 140 Mpts are standard across the range.

Suba Engineering will showcase a range of products including the Filtronic range of air filters for cleanroom work. The newly developed Stripper-Crimper AM 02 C (‘compact’) from Zoller+Froehlich is specially designed for the automated work processes of bulk insulated Z+F ferrules from 0.14 to 0.34 mm2 with a maximum crimp length of 8 mm. The Komax new Kappa generation of cut and strip machines has functions such as automatically measuring the conductor diameter at the press of a button.

Upton Australia, a supplier of PCB manufacturing, rework and repair equipment and services, will launch the BEST EZReball solder ball preform. This method simplifies the reballing process giving better yields and faster reballing times.

Agilent Technologies will feature the updated range of handheld instruments clad in vivid orange user safety.

Embedded Logic Solutions provides a range of LPKF ProtoMat circuit board plotters that differ in size and ability, and modified systems can be provided for special applications. The LPKF ProtoMat S62 introduces circuit board plotters for in-house rapid PCB prototyping.

SMCBA conference at Electronex

A one-day seminar on designing for manufacture, a course on EMI control and a review of PCB technologies are among the events at the Surface Mount 2010 conference that is being held in conjunction with Electronex in Sydney.

The keynote presenters are Martin Cotton, director of technology, Sanmina-SCI in Britain; Rick Hartley, senior principal engineer at L-3 Communication, Avionics Systems in the US; and Neil Douglas from New Zealand, who has 22 years’ experience in manufacturing involving SMT. Topics on several issues including SPC, DFM, signal integrity for high-speed circuits, EMI control through grounding and PCN design and ESD control will be covered.

An IPC-ESD certification course will be held and the first IPC-A-610 certification course in Australia, based on the new revision E of the standard, will be presented by the SMCBA’s master IPC trainer, Terry Clitheroe.

Cotton will give a one-day seminar on PCB design technologies on Tuesday, while the subject of statistical process control will be covered in an all-day workshop by Douglas. Day one of a three-day IPC certification training program also begins on Tuesday.

The following day, Cotton will hold an all-day seminar on design for manufacturing and Hartley will hold a one-day course on signal integrity in high-speed circuits.

On Thursday, Hartley continues his EMI theme, this time talking about control through grounding and PCB design. Douglas will take delegates through a half-day workshop on SMT; ESD control program with IPC certification is also running on this day along with part three of the acceptability of electronic assembly training course.

The IPC standard on electronic assembly acceptability, the most widely used standard internationally, the A-610, has just been released as the new revision E and accordingly the training materials for the IPC courses have been revised. Clitheroe will deliver the first 610 course to be conducted to revision E.
