Electronex 2027 brings electronics industry to Melbourne

Following the success of Electronex — The Electronics Design and Assembly Expo in Sydney in June 2025, the launch of the 2027 Expo in Melbourne has seen over 70% of the space already booked. The event will be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from 12–13 May 2027. Now in its 15th year, the Expo and SMCBA conference will again be co-located with Australian Manufacturing Week, which proved to be an outstanding success in 2025 with trade visitors able to visit two major related industry events at the same time.

This year’s June Expo was a sell-out, with over 100 companies represented. 350 exhibiting staff had the opportunity to network and discuss business with their peers, with many attending the Exhibitor Networking Function on the Wednesday evening, which was sponsored by What’s New in Electronics and Dyne Industries.

The Expo was busy across the two days with a steady stream of trade and industry visitors from all states of Australia and New Zealand. The Surface Mount and Circuit Board symposium that was held in conjunction with the Expo had an emphasis on the structural changes needed to strengthen Australia’s sovereign electronics manufacturing capability. With a focus on coordination between industry and government, the program explored how policy, investment and innovation could collectively support long-term sector growth.

Noel Gray, Managing Director of organiser AEE, said, “We were delighted with the turnout for the Expo and the floor was buzzing from the time the doors opened. The free seminars that were held on the show floor were also well attended with topics on the application of AI and insights into new technology and future opportunities for electronics manufacturing attracting a full house.”

A post-show visitor survey also reinforced the quality of decision-makers who attended, with 78% directly involved in purchasing, specifying or recommending products, while 92% discovered new companies, 88% discovered new products or technology and 98% said a dedicated show such as Electronex was beneficial to their industry. The survey also found that 55% of attendees were first-time visitors, reinforcing the importance of the Expo as a unique sales opportunity to meet new companies and source new business contacts.
