M2M Connectivity industrial protocol modules for Libelium Waspmote sensor nodes

M2M Connectivity has introduced the latest industrial protocol modules and API libraries for Libelium Waspmote sensor nodes that allow sensor information from industrial devices to connect to the cloud. The modules support the most widely used industrial communication network protocols such as RS232, RS485, CAN Bus and Modbus.

The protocols are used for process or industrial automation, building automation, military and automobile applications for sensor network capability in remote or factory-floor environments. In conjunction with the modules, Libelium has released a sensor board to connect 4-20 mA sensors (current loop), which are commonly deployed in industrial environments.

Designed for the IoT, Waspmote is a multi-protocol networking platform capable of covering any aspect of an industrial environment using IP all the way to the end device. It enables connection of any of the 70 sensors available to an existing industrial bus to obtain sensor information that can be read from any industrial device connected to the bus.

The product also allows the addition of wireless connectivity to a wired bus or to connect to the cloud via Wi-Fi, 3G, GPRS, 802.15.4, ZigBee, Bluetooth, Bluetooth Low Energy, RF-868MHz and RF-900 MHz. Connection to the cloud for industrial devices is enabled using Wi-Fi, 3G and GPRS radio interfaces.
