Freescale Semiconductor is using PowerQUICC II Pro technology to introduce a processor with high performance, low power consumption and a rich set of peripherals.

The integrated MPC8308 delivers performance to space-constrained applications. Powered by an e300 core, which is based on Power Architecture, the device runs at speeds up to 400 MHz and is designed for low-end embedded networking and industrial applications.

Featuring high-speed interconnects and newer interfaces, the processor offers a migration path for the company’s PowerQUICC I and low-end PowerQUICC II users.

The processor supports dual 10/100/1000 Mbps ethernet controllers, single lane PCI Express, USB 2.0 controller, DDR2 memory controller, local bus for boot from NAND flash support, enhanced SDHC controller for SD memory interface, dual universal asynchronous receiver/transmitters (DUART), serial peripherals, general-purpose I/O and system timers.

Also, for industrial control and factory automation, the MPC8308 features an integrated IEEE 1588 time synchronisation for applications such as time-sensitive telecommunications services, industrial network switches, powerline networks and test/measurement devices.
