Texas Instruments has released what is claimed to be the first LVDS serialiser that connects directly to 1.8 V powered processors and that eliminates the need for a level shifter when using 1.8 and 2.5 V logic interfaces, reducing board space by up to 83%.
The device supports 8-bit colour and serialises RGB data, then consolidates 24 data lines into one LVDS clock and four LVDS data pairs, which connect to LCD modules.
It supports applications such as netbooks, mobile internet devices, digital picture frames and others where an LVDS link from a processor to the LCD module is required and broad pixel frequency range from 10 to 135 MHz.
It connects directly to any TTL level from 1.8 to 3.3 V, eliminating the need for additional components.
