Adaptec has extended its existing relationship with Intel Corporation to deliver advanced hardware and software RAID products.

As part of the new collaboration, which includes a licensing agreement, the two companies will join forces in delivering RAID products to major OEM users and intend to work together on the development, marketing, support and innovation of other RAID solutions.

The collaboration combines the Intel IOP 34x storage processor family that delivers multiprotocol support and advanced data protection across a range of platforms, with three Adaptec technologies: the Unified Serial architecture that supports both Serial ATA (SATA) and Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) disk drives, ARC RAID stack and StorLib Management application programming interface (API).

Products are expected to start shipping based on the collaboration this month.

"Intel and Adaptec share a common goal: deliver innovative storage solutions based on leading hardware and software RAID technology to provide advanced data protection features currently not available in the marketplace," said S "Sundi' Sundaresh, president and chief executive officer of Adaptec.

"OEMs have a choice and we believe by working together, we can help OEM customers enter and serve new markets vital to their businesses."
