Siemens has added to its range of power management devices with the Sentron PAC4200 multifunction power monitoring device.

This joins the existing PAC3200 multifunction power monitoring device.

Suitable for use in Modbus RS465 and Profibus DP networks, the latest device offers a standard ethernet port with a transmission rate of 100 Mbps with built-in Modbus gateway, enabling it to be used as a master to monitor up to 32 sub devices without a repeater.

A signature of the series is the backlit screen. The latest monitor incorporates the same levels of visibility and display capabilities, but can also be configured to show specific values, displayed in either two or four parameters, that can be shown in a combination of either a bar graph or printed values.

It can monitor up to 200 values, with 12 limits available for setting over-range and undershoot. To ensure set limits are maintained, it is supplied standard with two digital input and two digital outputs, enabling setting alarms or limit value signalling. Further I/Os can also be added via an optional DI/DO expansion module (available mid 2009).

An important development of the device is its capability to measure and monitor harmful harmonics up to the 31st for both voltage and current, enabling true RMS measurement.
