Murata Power Solutions has introduced its UEI-series of isolated, wide-range DC/DC converters that deliver 50-60 W output from a standard 40.6 x 50.8 x 10.16 mm PCB mounted, open frame package. Plastic-cased versions are also available.

The regulated series has an operating temperature range of -40 to +85°C and is suitable for a wide range of ‘current hungry’ applications, including industrial, wireless and mobile communications, transportation, medical and instrumentation.

The offering includes two 4:1 ultra-wide range input voltages: 18-75 VDC combined with outputs of either 3.3 V at 18 A or 5.0 V at 12 A for a total power of 60 W and 9-36 VDC input, combined with 3.3 V at 15 A, 5.0 V at 10 A and 12 V at 4.2 A for 50 W output.

Capable of stable no-load operation without external components, the series uses a synchronous rectifier forward topology for high-efficiency operation resulting in minimal heat build-up.

Full magnetic and optical isolation of up to 2250 VDC provides basic insulation. Good ripple and noise specifications ensure compatibility with circuits using CPUs, ASICs, programmable logic and FPGAs.

Self-protection shutdown features are incorporated, including: input undervoltage lockout, over-temperature protection, over-current ‘hiccup’, auto re-start, output overvoltage protection and reverse conduction immunity.

Additional features include monotonic start-up, output voltage trim and remote on/off with either positive or negative logic.
