Phihong has developed a 2.75 W compact, fixed-blade USB charger, designated PSM03A-050Q, that features a 5 VDC output.

Suitable for applications including MP3 players, PDAs, digital cameras and other personal electronics, the low-cost adapter meets Energy Star EPS Version 2.0 and the European Commission’s integrated product policy requirements.

Using less than 0.03 W power at no load, the device operates at a minimum of 63.7% average efficiency. Its minimal no-load current draw has also earned the 2.75 W USB adapter the European Commission’s 5-Star standby power rating for mobile device chargers.

The adapter also has constant current and constant voltage control, applying a high current across the discharged battery to provide rapid charging and then, after the battery reaches its final termination voltage, switching to a constant voltage mode to maintain the battery at its termination voltage level.

Additionally, featuring cUL/UL, CE, and IEEE1725 safety markings and approvals, the charger provides overvoltage protection up to a maximum of 8.5 VDC, as well as short-circuit protection.
