MicroOptical has announced its SV-6 PC Viewer claimed to be the first eyewear-mounted display specifically designed for use with mobile personal computers.

The device is a small, ultra-lightweight and ergonomic display that provides head-up, hands-free viewing of information from tablets, laptops, wearable computers, ruggedised computers or other mobile computing devices with a VGA output.

The device functions as a second monitor using the multiple monitors feature in Windows 2000 and XP.

Users can have two monitors - a primary one for standard information and the SV-6 head-up display for other information, which is especially useful in unit-tethered Wi-Fi applications.

In addition, the SV-6 will automatically format SVGA for the VGA viewer, eliminating the need to reset the resolution.

A combination of optics, electronics and a micro-display allows users to project the equivalent of a full-size screen in front of their eyes at a distance that is adjustable from 60 cm to 4.5 m. The virtual image created appears with minimal obstruction so users can still focus on their work.

The image is bright and usable both indoors and outdoors, further enhancing mobile Wi-Fi tablet PC applications.

It has 18 bit colour resolution.
