Coherent OTDR

Anritsu’s MW90010A OTDR (C-OTDR) uses a coherent detection scheme to produce improved dynamic range and sensitivity.

The instrument can measure optical submarine cables up to 12,000 km long with a claimed 100 times the accuracy of previous instruments.

The device detects faults with up to 10 m resolution and can collect 1.2 million data points for analysis on ultra-long optical submarine cables. The unit detects faults and captures important waveform data, including cable loss, bending loss and fibre length; all the parameters that support detailed submarine cable evaluation.

Due to its overall performance it can accurately measure optical submarine cables with optical repeaters spaced at intervals of 80 km or more. The wavelength of the built-in light source can be tuned with ±0.2 nm accuracy in the range of 1535.03 <0x007E> 1565.08 nm, supporting DWDM submarine cable systems.
