Nordic Semiconductor’s nRF51 series is a battery-powered evaluation kit for 2.4 GHz integrated circuits. It supports real-world environmental testing of ANT/ANT+, Bluetooth low energy, Bluetooth Smart) and proprietary 2.4 GHz ULP wireless sensors and accessories.The kit is applicable to the nRF51 series of multiprotocol Bluetooth low energy/2.4 GHz proprietary RF system-on-chip and ANT/ANT+ system-on-chip.

Each nRF51 series evaluation kit is compatible with a range of application examples contained within Nordic’s nRF51 series software development kit. The evaluation board has all components mounted single-side. The full kit comprises a USB dongle, coin-cell battery compartment, PCB strip antenna, Segger J-Link de-bug capability, USB port for computer link-up, 32 I/O header pins for access to all GPIOs, two miniaturised buttons. Two miniaturised LEDs are available for user-defined functions and current measurement pins.

The kit allows the prototyping and initial development of ULP wireless product applications. The dongle-based evaluation set-up allows development engineers to write code, test and perform in-situ evaluations without the need of test-bench set-up. This presents an advantage in the early-stage application evaluations and testing. This applies throughout the whole process; from engineers prototyping multiple body-worn sensor network products all the way through to industrial measurement and control systems.
