Arrow Electronics has announced the Maxim MAX1497 IC, part of the 1495-1499 and 1447 family of 3.5- and 4.5-digit sigma-delta analog-to-digital converters with integrated LED display drivers.

The devices are suitable for panel-meter applications. The 1495-1499 and 1447 integrate an on-chip oscillator and internal 2.048 V reference in 28-pin SSOP or 32-pin TQFP packages, resulting in a 10x reduction in footprint when compared with the ICL7137CPL.

The ADCs provide greater than 100 dB of simultaneous 50/60 Hz noise rejection. They accept a bipolar ±2 V or ±200 mV differential input, include hold/peak functions and contain a low battery indicator. The devices consume 900 uA (typ) using a single 2.7 to 5.25 V supply.

The 1495-1499 and 1447 eliminate the external integrating and autozeroing capacitor required for competitive solutions such as the industry standard ICL7137. The external capacitors contribute most of the measurement errors in dual-slope ADCs; eliminating them on the 1495-1499 and 1447 directly improves measurement accuracy and simplifies design.

The 1497/1499 offer an optional SPI-/QSPI-/Microwire- compatible serial interface for independent control of the ADC and LED drivers. This allows processing by microcontroller before displaying the ADC result.

The 1496 3.5-digit standalone and the 1497 3.5-digit µC interface devices are available in 28-pin PDIP and 28-pin SSOP packages.
