Powertran has released a range of toroidal transformers especially designed for use in audio amplifiers.
Available in 160, 300 and 500 VA, each toroidal features not only a standard pair of secondary windings, but also a pair of auxiliary 15 V windings rated at 500 mA and can be used to power a pre-amp stage in an audio amplifier.
The principal benefit of this is to provide a totally isolated power supply for low voltage control and logic circuits without the massive heat dissipation caused by reducing the main rail voltage.
The 160 VA type is available with both 30 and 37 V secondaries. The 300 VA type is available with 30, 35, 40 and 45 V secondaries; while the 500 VA type is available with 45 or 55 V secondaries.
