Adelaide's wireless internet precinct

Monday, 08 October, 2001

A $35 million wireless internet and communications precinct, the first of its kind in Australia, is to launch in Adelaide in February 2002.

The m.Net project was launched with financial support coming from a consortium of telecommunications, information technology and academic organisations, as well as $9 million in funding from the federal government.

The precinct will provide an environment for Australian companies to develop, trial and commercialise a wide range of wireless internet applications and services. A second precinct is earmarked to cover the rural centre of Whyalla in SA's midnorth.
