Dow SILASTIC MS-5002 Moldable Silicone
Dow has launched its SILASTIC MS-5002 Moldable Silicone, a specialised liquid silicone rubber (LSR) featuring low mould fouling for fast cycle times and high-quality optics in automotive adaptive driving beam (ADB) light guides.
As the market trend for ADB headlights accelerates to mass production, optical matrix lens moulders are looking to produce quality parts with high throughput and little preventive maintenance. The mouldable silicone has been specifically formulated for injection moulded parts with less complex geometries that require high-productivity manufacturing. It also features high transparency and non-yellowing to maximise LED light output, and a wide processing window.
Dow says the specialised mouldable silicone reduces weight compared to glass and plastic, and lowers energy requirements to produce each part. It is designed to enable fast throughput, reducing production downtime and surface degradation from mould fouling.
