The Australian National Committee of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), in conjunction with Standards Australia, is hosting the 75th IEC general meeting in October.

“This is the world’s pre-eminent gathering of electro-technical experts and represents an opportunity to showcase Australian innovation and technical expertise,” said Colin Blair, chief executive, Standards Australia.

Blair said the IEC General Meeting attracts over 1000 members and accompanying persons from 70 countries.

This year’s meeting is in Melbourne and will attract large numbers of experts in the area of equipment for explosive atmospheres, AV and multimedia equipment, fibre optics and electromagnetic compatibility.

The event will be at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from 24-28 October 2011. Technical committee and subcommittee meetings will start on 19 October 2011 and continue until 31 October.

Industry representatives, academics, regulators and other major stakeholders will discuss technical and management issues and exchange ideas to help strengthen global cooperation among countries regarding electrical and electronic product Standards.
