Gresham Power Electronics wins defence contract
Gresham Power Electronics has been awarded a major contract to supply specialist battery-charging equipment and batteries for new submarines for India. The contract will last until 2016 and is valued at approx $867,000.
The company’s battery-charging systems have been designed into the Scorpène class submarines by the French contractor for naval shipbuilding and support, DCN, and the Spanish shipbuilder Navantia.
Scorpène submarines are a class of diesel-electric attack submarine jointly developed by DCN and Navantia. They feature diesel propulsion and an optional additional air-independent propulsion (AIP) system.
The submarines are virtually undetectable and patrol the sea at depths of 350 m, travelling at high speed for long periods of time while remaining aware of everything around them. The modular nature of the design makes it suitable to tailor the submarine to users’ specific requirements and to include technological innovations to maintain operation.
Gresham Power also manufactures static frequency converters, DC UPS, distributed power systems and DC:AC inverters for naval defence systems as well as a complete range of OEM power supplies, compact PCI products, hot-swap power shelves and products for telecoms, medical, industrial and commercial applications.
