Harting Technology Group welcomed German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel and the Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, who officially opened the Hannover Messe Trade Fair together on the previous day, to its stand on the first visitor day.

China is the partner country of the annual trade fair and a large Chinese delegation therefore accompanied the high-profile visitors to the Espelkamp-based family company’s exhibition stand.

Jiabo and Merkel with Harting employees

Wen Jiabao and Merkel found the time for the Harting family to inform them about the company, its international locations and its products.

Wen Jiabao ended his visit by remarking, “You are a family company. Now you have two families, one in Germany and one in China.” These words were particularly significant to Harting’s many Chinese employees.

Prominent regional figures also took the opportunity to visit the company’s stand. Margrit and Dietmar Harting welcomed Dr Ralf Niermann, chief executive of the Minden-Lübbecke district authority; Heinrich Vieker, the mayor of Espelkamp; Michael Buhre, the mayor of Minden; and Bernd Hachmann, the mayor of Rahden, in Hannover. Stephan Weil, the mayor of Hannover, also visited the traditional annual trade fair, greeted many exhibitors and found time for a lengthy discussion with the Harting family.
