Plastic electronics through inkjet printers

Tuesday, 03 September, 2002

Two separate technologies are being developed by Arizona researchers, in order to make circuits from layers of organic semiconducting ink.

An ink-jet printer that can drop tiny amounts of liquid (picolitres in volume) with extreme accuracy and organic liquids that form semiconducting polymer are the two areas being developed.

The process when finalised will involve no high temperatures, vacuum environments or costly machinery and the chemicals will remain transparent until activated.
