Sun rises on solar partnership

Tuesday, 10 November, 2009

A partnership between Tokyo Electron (TEL) and Oerlikon Solar will make inroads into the Australian solar market and will introduce thin film photovoltaic technology.

TEL/Oerlikon believe the technology will transform the solar power industry by achieving record levels of efficiency and driving solar power towards grid price parity with traditional ‘dirty energies’ such as coal.

Already one of the world's largest thin film PV equipment suppliers, the partnership claims its technology will, within a couple of years, achieve grid parity pricing with traditional forms of energy generation and, for the first time, allow the solar energy sector to compete on a level playing field in the energy market.

It will ensure the government's Solar Flagships project uses the world's most innovative technology in the construction of world-class PV power plants, to deliver maximum efficiency and create new green jobs for Australia.
