Taiwan ranks three in connectors

Taiwan is being recognised as the key manufacturer of ICT products, including persronal computers, notebooks, monitors and motherboards, and has cultivated a strong connector industry, ranked at three in global production value.

According to the Industrial Technology Intelligence Service (ITIS) program sponsored by Taiwan's Ministry of Economic
Affairs (MOEA), the production value of Taiwan's connectors industry was $46 billion in 2007. Compared with 2006, the growth rate was 9.02%, which is higher than the global average.

It is expected that the production value of the Taiwan connector industry will grow to $50.6 billion, with a growth rate over 9%.

The production value of connectors in communications grew 22% in 2007 and maintained 20% in 2008. It is expected that the rising demands of WLAN, WiMAX and 3G will continue bringing business opportunities for Taiwanese makers.

In particular, the ‘netbook revolution’ initiated by Taiwanese makers since the end of 2007 has driven higher demand of low-cost, ultra-thin notebooks, as well as the production value of connectors in the notebook segment.

As for consumer electronics in general, the growth rates of Taiwan producers in 2007 and 2008 were 23.9% and 20%.
