Monday, 08 October, 2001

India's largest IT company, Wipro, plans to launch operations in Australia.

Company president, Suresh Vaswani, said the move into Australia was part of an overall goal to be one of the world's 10 biggest IT services companies, in terms of market capitalisation, by 2004.

Mr Vaswani said Wipro's Australian workforce would act as its base for Asia Pacific, adding that the company would carry out more than 75% of its Australian contract work in India. He did not reveal how much the company would spend on setting up its Australian operation.
