Worthwhile gifts for engineers
Friday, 11 January, 2013
Yes, Christmas is all over and now we are all back at work doing sensible, work things. But it is still worth considering what gifts you’d like to give yourself in lieu of those useless ties, socks and novelty toilet paper you received for Christmas.
The best suggestions have to be on the National Instruments blog called NI News in Real Time. The suggestions in ‘Yes, Virginia: You CAN Buy an Engineer a Good Gift’ are all worthwhile.
The Battlemug made from a 6.1 kg solid block of 6061 T6 billet aluminium and featuring a M1913 rail interface system that can be used to mount a tactical light, laser device, holographic sight or even a bayonet for close quarters, high-risk operations is tempting. However, for my money it has to be the Fred and Friends OCD cutting board.

Removing all stress for the precision engineer in the kitchen, this beechwood board clearly indicates the accurate sizes for batonnet, allumette, julienne, fine julienne, brunoise, fine brunoise, medium and small dicing. No more will you have to be concerned that your julienned carrots have actually been allumetted! And the board can be ordered online from Amazon.
In late December, Veederline was wishing all its website visitors a happy end of the world in an open-minded recognition of the end of the Mayan calendar. They also included Lynx’s ‘Happy end of the world’ video clip. This is well worth a look if only to consider whether or not the OCD cutting board would be an asset on the ark!
