Osram Opto Semiconductors Stacked Dragon compact infrared LED
The Osram Opto Semiconductors Stacked Dragon bright, compact infrared LED is suitable for camera systems such as those for automated number plate recognition that require small size to fit into existing posts or gates.
The infrared light provides enough irradiance for the camera to take high-quality pictures even in bad weather conditions.
Many of these systems comprise a camera and a separate illumination unit. Powerful infrared LEDs allow merging the camera and illumination into one.
Using technology developed for lasers, the company has nearly double the optical power of its thin-film infrared chips. At 1 mm2 in size, the chip yields almost 1 W light output at a driving current of 1 A.
Suitable for standard optics, the IRED provides the high radiant intensity that is needed for applications like automated number plate recognition.
With a forward voltage of 2.9 at 1 A, it can be operated with a standard LED driver. Its wavelength of 850 nm matches the camera’s sensitivity range and is difficult to see by the human eye at night.
