Acromag XMC640 network interface module series

Metromatics has released the Acromag XMC640 Series of 10-Gigabit Ethernet network interface modules to customers across Australia and New Zealand.

The rugged XMC mezzanine modules provide high-speed fibre-optic connectivity for embedded computing systems, offering a choice of two or four independent 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) ports. Designed for demanding environments, the modules support high-bandwidth network communications in defence, aerospace, industrial and scientific research applications.

As embedded computing platforms increasingly process large volumes of data, consistent high-speed networking is essential. The XMC640 Series addresses these requirements by combining multiple fibre-optic interfaces with advanced network management capabilities, helping system designers optimise data transfer, reduce processor overhead and simplify network integration.

The series includes the XMC642 with two LC fibre-optic ports and the XMC644 with four ports. Both modules incorporate Intel’s XL710 Ethernet controller, providing advanced traffic steering, intelligent offloading and virtualisation capabilities to improve network efficiency and reduce latency.

Each optical interface supports 10GbE full-duplex communication using 10GBASE-SX connections, with transmission distances of up to 400 metres. Additional features include jumbo frame support up to 9.5 KB, hardware checksum offloading, dynamic load balancing and IEEE 1588 precision timing support.

Designed for harsh environments, the series of network interface modules operates across a temperature range of -40 to +85°C and is designed to meet VITA 47 shock and vibration requirements. The modules are compatible with Acromag’s VPX and PCIe carrier cards, supporting integration into existing and new embedded computing architectures.

The modules also feature rugged optical transceivers with secure mechanical connections and support Linux and Windows operating systems through Intel XL710 Ethernet controller drivers.
