Acromag XVME-6800 single board computer

Metromatics, the exclusive Acromag partner in Australia and New Zealand, has launched the Acromag XVME-6800 6U VME single board computer (SBC).

Designed to modernise existing VMEbus systems, the single board computer allows organisations to introduce current processing technology while retaining compatible VME backplanes, specialist I/O boards and other established system infrastructure.

VME technology remains widely deployed in defence, aerospace, transportation, research and industrial applications. However, the processor boards within these systems may no longer provide the performance, connectivity or long-term availability required for modern workloads. The XVME-6800 provides an upgrade path that can extend the operating life of these systems without the risk of a complete platform redesign.

Powered by an 11th-generation Intel Tiger Lake-H Xeon W processor, the board provides eight processing cores and 16 threads. It also includes 32GB DDR4 ECC memory, onboard NVMe storage and an FPGA-based VME-to-PCIe bridge.

Two PMC/XMC mezzanine sites allow engineers to add specialist processing, communications and I/O capabilities. These may include FPGA processing, data acquisition, video capture, high-speed networking or platform-specific interfaces. The XMC sites support PCI Express Gen4 x8 connectivity.

Potential applications include defence platform sustainment, radar and electronic warfare, C5ISR processing, flight test, simulation, scientific instrumentation, transportation systems and industrial automation.
