Advantech MIC-3666 network mezzanine card

Friday, 21 May, 2010 | Supplied by: Advantech Australia Pty Ltd

Advantech has introduced a network mezzanine card compliant with the VITA XMC standard, the MIC-3666, enabling 10 gigabit ethernet on a CompactPCI form factor.

The add-on module, which primarily targets OEMs deploying Advantech’s MIC-3393 CompactPCI blade, complements the company’s blades with gigabit ethernet connectivity.

The MIC-3666 is a low-power, dual-port 10 GbE NIC, with SFP+ pluggable modules for multimode and singlemode fibre media and is based on the 82599ES 10 gigabit ethernet controller.

The XMC provides a PCIe x8 interface at 5 Gbps per lane at a power dissipation of less than 10 W.

The MIC-3666 features an 82599 which provides virtualisation for connectivity including virtual machine device queues and PCI_SIG compliant single root I/O virtualisation, helping to reduce I/O bottlenecks, boost throughput and reduce latency.

Where virtualisation is required, VMDqs improve performance by offloading the data-sorting burden from the virtual machine manager to the network controller.

The MIC device’s specialised features include layer 2 and 3 security with IPSec and LinkSec; I/OAT acceleration v3.0; VLAN tagging, stripping and packet filtering; and TCP, iSCSI, and fibre channel over ethernet (FCoE) offload.
