ATCA processor blade

Kontron has revealed a first look of what the future holds in AdvancedTCA processor blades with the AT8050 node blade designed using the next-generation Intel Xeon processor.

With the Xeon and 10GbE on the fabric interface, the device is expected to drive any number of mobile and multimedia server-storage applications that target IMS, NMS and the 3G wireless control plane segments such as RNC and SGSN systems.

With the scalability advantages of AdvancedTCA — from 2U-2-slot to 13U-14-slot platforms — the blades will have cross-over deployment opportunities between the central office and data centre.

Additional features include up to six DIMM sockets and the design of one AdvancedMC bay to populate with an assortment of AdvancedMC modules. One example is the AM42xx series of intelligent packet processor AdvancedMC modules.

These modules can be used for various wireless and wireline security packet inspection applications.

Also available is the RTM8050, a rear transition module built with a SAS controller to support a hot-swappable SAS/SATA hard disk on the RTM and/or a SAS/SATA AdvancedMC module populated in the AT8050’s one AdvancedMC slot.
