austriamicrosystems 14-bit magnetic rotary encoder IC

Monday, 16 November, 2009 | Supplied by: Arrow Electronics Australia Pty Ltd

austriamicrosystems has introduced the AS5163, claimed to be the first magnetic rotary encoder IC specifically designed to comply with motor vehicle requirements in angle-sensing applications.

The device incorporates both +27 V overvoltage protection and -18 V reverse polarity at supply pins, and features an intelligent short-circuit monitoring function to protect it against damage under short-circuit conditions, making it suitable for throttle systems.

The single-wire pin can be configured either as a 14-bit digital, 12-bit PWM or ratiometric analog output. In addition, the IC can be customised to cover any system-specific angle range.

The device is operational over an ambient temperature range from -40 to 150 °C, is available in a TSSOP 14 package and operates at 5 V supply voltage.
