Extreme Networks has announced a data centre switch that provides high performance, scalability and features to deliver improved network economics, scale and longevity within enterprise data centres.

The Summit X650, a 24-port non-blocking 10 Gb fixed switch, provides a breakthrough approach for data centres with industry-leading high-capacity and performance-stacking technology that offers customers flexibility and a smooth migration for servers supporting 10 Gb and gigabit speeds.

The device, a purpose-built, top-of-rack 1 RU switch, supports a design that shifts the dynamics of data centre decision making with a future-proof, high-performance architecture and stacking.

Enterprises have the ability to support upgrades to high-performance 10GbE while protecting their existing gigabit technologies for switches and servers.

The switch supports high-density 10 Gb Ethernet within a single rack unit with up to 32 10 Gb ports on a single system, or up to 256 ports in a stacked system.

It promotes longevity in the network by supporting switch stacking with total throughput performance of 512 Gbps. It supports network scalability with 10GbE ports, 10GASE-T or SFP+ fibre interfaces.
