4D Systems has introduced the Goldelox-GFX graphics processor for LCD and OLED displays.
It is configurable and will interface with many popular LCD and OLED displays and implements a set of integrated graphics and I/O functions controlled by EVE (extensible virtual engine).
In simple applications the GFX may be all that is needed as its I/O features can interface to serial, analog, digital, sound generation and Dallas 1-wire devices. In more complex applications, the user can offload most graphics to the GFX and just send serial commands to perform the required actions from a host processor.
All the LCD and OLED built-in driver libraries implement and share the same function interface. This allows the GUI application to be portable to different display controller types.
Software development tools such as 4DGL Workshop and Graphics Composer are free.
Features include: low-cost OLED, LCD and TFT display graphics user interface solution; a standalone embedded graphics processor or interface to any host controller as a graphics coprocessor; connectivity to any colour display that supports an 80-series 8-bit wide CPU interface — all data and control signals are provided; built-in virtual process engine with byte-code instruction set optimised for 4DGL; set of built-in graphics functions and algorithms that can draw lines, circles and text; full-colour image, animation, icon and video clip display; digital I/O ports; analog to digital converter with 8- or 10-bit resolution; sound generation; external 1-wire device support; 16-bit free-running timer with 1 ms resolution; hardware interface support for SD, micro-SD or MMC memory cards for multimedia storage and data logging; asynchronous hardware serial port with auto-baud feature; 8 KB of flash memory for user code storage and 456 bytes of RAM for user variables; and single 3.3 V supply at 15 mA typical.
