HSPA+ module

M2M Connectivity has launched the Sierra Wireless MC8700 module for HSPA+ networks.

The MC8700 is designed for developers integrating mobile broadband capabilities into modems, terminals, routers and portable handheld devices requiring high-speed data over 3G/HSPA networks. The module offers UMTS/HSPA and quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE network access for roaming worldwide.

The module supports peak data speeds of up to 21 Mbps (megabits per second) on the downlink and 5.76 Mbps on the uplink. These speeds enable OEM users to expand their industrial and enterprise product development into applications requiring higher bandwidth, such as video monitoring.

The embedded module is a powerful, cost-effective solution that delivers the same reliable, high-quality mobile broadband connectivity customers have come to expect from Sierra Wireless.

Developer samples of the MC8700 are expected May 2009 with commercial volumes expected July 2009.
