IGBT power modules

Semikron has introduced a new topology to the current Semitop IGBT range, now also for three-level inverters.

The topology integrates IGBT technology with lower switching and conduction losses that show 60% fewer losses compared with 2-level inverters.

The latest module was designed for low commutation inductivity in contrast to half bridge modules.

The improved efficiency of the DC/AC conversion is available for UPS applications in the power range from 5-80 kVA.

The three-level inverter is one single module that replaces two modules used for a standard two-level half-bridge topology. The topology for the three-level inverter has a series connection of IGBTs with which it is possible to obtain higher reverse IGBT blocking voltages.

By connecting three of these modules, it is possible to achieve a complete three-phase three-level invert with maximised electrical and thermal efficiency.

Due to the sinusoidal output, it is possible to reduce harmonic content and output filters.

Current rating is from 20 to 150 A by using 600 V IGBT reverse blocking voltages. Modules operate with input power from 5-80 kVA. The IGBTs for three-level inverters are available in two housings: for modules with current rating from 20 to 50 A and for modules with current rating from 75 to 150 A.
