Linear Technology has announced the LTC3535, a dual-channel 1 MHz, current mode synchronous boost DC/DC converter with integrated output disconnect and soft-start.
The device’s internal 550 mA switches deliver output voltages to 5.25 from an input voltage range of 0.7 start-up, 0.5 when running to 5, making it suitable for single- or multi-cell alkaline/NiMH as well as Li-Ion/polymer applications.
Each of the converter’s channels has its own power input and is independent, offering maximum design flexibility. For example, one channel can deliver up to 50 mA continuous at 3.3 V while the other channel delivers up to 100 mA at 1.8 V to power a microcontroller from a single alkaline cell.
The 1 MHz switching frequency minimises external component sizes while providing up to 94% efficiency.
Burst Mode operation lowers quiescent current to 18 µA (both channels), providing extended battery run time in handheld applications. The LTC3535 is suitable for handheld dual boost applications in which small solution size and maximum battery run time are defining factors.
