The MCP16301 is the company’s first 30 V-input, buck switching regulator with 600 mA output capability. The regulator has a wide input voltage range, from 4 to 30, an output voltage range from 2 to 15 and provides up to 95% efficiency.

It is available in a six-pin SOT-23 package with an integrated high-side switch and requires a minimal number of external components. It is suitable for applications in the industrial, telecommunications, consumer and motor vehicle markets.

The device provides a solution for stepping down 12 to 24 VDC power rails, for use with PIC microcontrollers and other low-voltage devices in a wide range of applications.

The high-speed peak current mode control allows fast responses to sudden input-voltage and load transients encountered in power applications.

The regulator also delivers good line and load regulation, while the integrated control-loop compensation and slope compensation make the complex task of stabilising the converter control system simple and reliable.

It decreases the power demand and the amount of heat dissipated within the application and in the corresponding cooling requirements, when compared with a low drop-out regulator.
