Moxa’s ioPAC 5542 Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) are hardy, compact, metal-encased, all-in-one controllers that combine a GPRS/HSPA cellular modem, fully featured I/O terminals and data logger in a single device.

The RTU supports standalone data logging in a storage space expandable up to 32 GB. It comes with Moxa’s Active OPC Server software, which confers the power of push communications from edge to core.

The RTU additionally features high sampling rates, a pre-recorded event buffer, millisecond-scale timestamps and a choice of C/C++ or IEC 61131-3 programming platforms. It delivers accurate and powerful programming scope, giving engineers a strong, efficient controller for processes such as analysing and identifying anomalous intrusions, or monitoring for device failures.

Designed to work in harsh industrial environments, the RTUs feature railway-grade ESD and surge protection, wide tolerance for temperatures from -40 to 75°C (-30 to 75°C for HSPA models) and are UL/cUL Class 1 Division 2 and ATEX Zone 2 certified. For network redundancy and communications security, they come with two 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports that may be trunked into a single uplink, as well as two software-selectable 3-in-1 serial ports.

With its targeted hardware and software optimisations, the RTUs provide a comprehensive solution for data acquisition and control applications in harsh environments.
