Backplane has released Digital-Logic's embedded smartModule with a 300 MHz Geode GX1 processor, the SMGXPC.
This module is compatible with the PC/480 standard and uses the Geode GX1 processor from National Semiconductor that includes an x86 core, display controller with 2D graphics accelerator, main memory and a PCI bus host controller.
This smartModule is based on the PC/480 standard, which combines all signals, common interfaces, ISA and PCI bus on a single bus.
The SMGXPC features a very small footprint of 66 x 85 mm with a flat, low profile design. It has a clock frequency of up to 300 MHz and supports 16 to 128 MB of SODIMM SDRAM. It features two USB interfaces and an optional LAN interface.
The standard version includes interfaces for two hard disks, floppy disk, keyboard, mouse, printer and TTL ports at COM1 and COM2.
The low power consumption of the SMGXPC eliminates the need for active cooling. The device uses the integrated graphics unit of the Geode processor and is equipped with 1 MB video RAM and an 18 bit VGA LCD interface. It offers resolutions of up to 1280 x 1024 pixels with 256 colours.
Additional technical features include a watchdog timer, power-management functions, a connection for an external RTC battery, EEPROM support up to 1024 bytes and AC97-compatible audio function.
The SMGXPC operates under Windows 98/CE/2000, Linux, QNX and RTXDOS. Designed for low power consumption, it can function in the standard temperature range of -25 to +60°C without a ventilator.
An optional extended temperature range of -40 to +85°C is available.
