Sun Microsystems has introduced solid-state disks that will give users greater application performance, massive scale and value through the integration of the Solaris Operating System, Solaris ZFS and other open source technologies.

The company has already released Solaris ZFS software optimised for SSD technologies through the OpenSolaris community and is claimed to be the first systems vendor to add an end-to-end Flash-based disk product range to give users 3x better performance at a fifth the energy consumption of traditional spinning disks.

Because the Flash arrays reduce energy use, they will join the company portfolio of Eco Innovation products and services.
