Luminary Micro has announced the Stellaris Intelligent 3.5" landscape display single board computer reference design kit (RDK-IDM-SBC), featuring fully integrated 10/100 ethernet (MAC+PHY), USB host and CAN interfaces.

Based on the Stellaris LM3S9B92 microcontroller, the intelligent display reference design combines a 3.5" QVGA landscape-oriented touch-screen user interface with several serial, digital and analog connectivity options for implementation as a human machine interface touch display panel in an embedded control device.

Software development is simplified by using the company’s StellarisWare graphics library, USB library, peripheral driver library and ARM development tools from ARM tools partners.

Stellaris IDMs are said to be the first display modules available with the efficient performance and robust integration of an ARM Cortex-M3 microcontroller, positioning the modules into building access controllers and security systems, intelligent whitegoods and home appliances, thin-clients and factory automation applications.

Featuring a 3.5" landscape-oriented QVGA 16-bit colour LCD resistive touch panel display with white LED backlight, the design uses the connectivity features included in the integrated LM3S9B92 microcontroller.

The connectivity options include 10/100 ethernet RJ45 jack, USB 2.0 type A connector, CAN through a terminal block interface, and DART and I2C through an expansion header.

In addition to the microcontroller’s integrated 256 K of flash memory and 96 K of SRAM, the SBC intelligent display reference design offers extended board-level memories including 8 MB SDRAM connected via the external peripheral interface on the microcontroller, 1 MB of external serial flash, USB host connector for external mass storage and a MicroSD card slot for imaging, data and code storage.

The design also features I2S Audio CODEC with power amplifier to drive an external 8 Ω speaker. The board is powered by a terminal block connection to a wide input range 12-40 VDC supply with auxiliary 5 V power output.

The software includes the StellarisWare library suite, including the graphics library, USB library and peripheral driver library.

The libraries provide a C/C++ applications programming interface that generates graphical elements for the IDM, eases point-to-point connectivity using worldwide serial interface standards and controls the peripherals found on the LM3S9B92 microcontroller, respectively.
