Trinamic PD42-1-1243-IOLINK intelligent actuator

The Trinamic-branded PD42-1-1243-IOLINK intelligent actuator, by Maxim Integrated Products, enables modern smart factories to quickly and remotely adjust an actuator’s electrical characteristics to minimise factory downtime and maximise throughput. It combines a NEMA-17 stepper motor with controller and driver electronics.

The product uses the flexibility of Maxim Integrated’s MAX22513 IO-Link transceiver to allow seamless configuring of all modes of Trinamic’s TMC2130-LA motor driver. The chipset solution of the motor driver and transceiver builds on the benefits of IO-Link’s two-way universal interface.

The intelligent actuator incorporates motion control technology into a plug-and-play solution that is said to be 2.6x smaller and more than 50% lower power compared to the closest competitor. External limit switches to detect hard stop conditions have been eliminated, resulting in a solution size of 82 cm3. It is designed to bring intelligence to the factory floor by providing 50% more parameters to help improve predicting factory shutdowns and maximise factory throughput.

The product can adjust device parameters on the fly by providing access to load values and noise reduction parameters using StealthChop technology to dynamically optimise actuator throughput performance. The motor driver features CoolStep power savings and the transceiver has low RDS(on) N-Channel power MOSFETs.
