Kontron’s 1U mini-format industrial server range Kiss 1U Short features a 25% reduced installation depth. Despite a compact format they offer the latest multicore processor performance, two SATA hard disks with optional RAID functionality and two PCI expansion slots for user-specific expansion options.

The small form factor industrial servers have an installation height of 44 mm and are 350 mm long, leaving enough space in the back of the rack for installing cables and dock-on devices.

The most important electronic components, such as the embedded motherboard and the RAID controller, are engineered and manufactured by the company.

The servers eliminate the need for many custom designs efforts.

The servers target applications such as: communications infrastructure, automation, process control, industrial image processing, medical technology, transportation or building automation.

Additionally, they can be applied as media-servers for digital signage applications. The low noise emission of only 35 dbA enables these mini-servers to be installed in noise-sensitive areas.

The first mini-server in the family is supplied with the company’s own Mini ITX embedded motherboard, 986LCF-M/mITX, and is equipped either with 1.86 GHz Celeron processors or 2.0 GHz or 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processors.

Up to 4 GB of DDR2 SDRAM also contribute to the high system performance.

It features 4 x USB 2.0 interfaces on the front and 3 x Gbit ethernet, 4 x USB 2.0 along with serial and VGA interfaces at the rear. User-specific expansions can be carried out via two 32-bit half-size PCI expansion slots.

Hard disk access via SATA is fast and due to the shock-resistant internal 3.5″ slot it is also secure. On the front, it also offers slots for a 3.5″ hard disk and a slim DVD drive.

The optional Stor Slim RAID 1 subsystem with two hot-swappable 2.5″ hard disks offers additional data security.

It is connected via one power and one SATA cable. As an alternative to the integrated 80+ AC power supply, a 24 VDC supply can also be used.
