Wednesday, 17 June, 2009 | Supplied by: Siemens Ltd

Siemens is expanding its Scalance X-300 series of managed industrial ethernet switches with a range for use in energy automation.

The X-300EEC (enhanced environmental conditions) with IP30 degree of protection is suitable for extreme harsh industrial environments, as well as communication between switching and protection devices in low-voltage and high-voltage switchgear.

The switches are EMC approved in accordance with the IEC standard 61850-3.

The range consists of compact devices and a modular 19" rack unit. There are versions with redundant wide-range supplies to meet high availability demands and with special coatings for heavy ambient air pollution.

Depending on the version, the devices feature 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports and 100/1000 Mbps FOC ports with different numbers of interfaces.

All versions support time synchronisation with high-precision microsecond accuracy to meet IEEE 1588 V2 standard.
