Silvertel Ag5412 high-efficiency PoE PD module

Silvertel announces the IEEE 802.3at compliant Ag5412 PD (powered device) — the first in a range of high-efficiency PD modules for embedded Power over Ethernet (PoE) solutions. Aimed at developers of Ethernet equipment requiring up to 30 W of power, such as IP cameras, PTZ cameras, WiMAX access points, door entry systems, digital signage, and VoIP phones and terminals, the product provides a high-efficiency, drop-in IEEE802.3at solution.

The device is designed to enhance the company’s PoE PD range of IEEE802.3at modules, providing the full 30 W of output power at 12 V, with a lower noise figure, over the industrial temperature range. A 50% reduction in ‘wasted’ power means that it is suitable for use in applications where a high ambient temperature can typically limit the use of lower efficiency PD solutions.

The product is a Class 4 PD, which displays the correct class pulses to an IEEE802.3at PSE. A high-efficiency DC-DC converter generates a nominal 12 V output. Additional features include 1500 V isolation (input to output), as well as overload, short-circuit and thermal protection.

Requiring just a few external components, the device is easy to use, occupies a minimum of PCB real estate and provides high performance. It supplements Silvertel’s extensive offering of Power over Ethernet products for both the PD and PSE.
