Dow granted patents for PV encapsulant films
Dow has been granted United States and European Union device patents for the use of encapsulant films in photovoltaic (PV) modules. The patents cover electronic devices having polyolefin (PO) encapsulant films with certain commercially important physical, mechanical and compositional properties.
Dow has been granted US and EU device patents for encapsultant films used in photovoltaic panels. “This patent illustrates the robust intellectual property Dow has developed as we work to provide our customers with solutions to improve power generation of PV modules and systems,” says Sang-Ho Kang, global business leader, Dow Photovoltaic.
ENLIGHT PO encapsulant films enable PV modules to sustain zero energy loss due to potential induced degradation (PID) based on third-party performance testing, resulting in increased energy yield, improved reliability, and better short- and long-term performance of PV modules overall. The films also have the ability to reduce lamination cycle times during module production and reduced module degradation from corrosion and yellowing.
The specific patents granted to Dow include US Patents No. 8,581,094 and 8,592,679, along with EU Patent No. 2067175, covering countries including Germany and Great Britain. In addition to its US and EU patents, Dow was previously granted similar patents in China, No. CN 101517750 B and Philippines, No. PH 12009500505B1 and has additional patents pending in several countries.
