MTS Systems Temposonics E-series linear-position sensors

MTS Systems has redesigned the Temposonics E-series of linear-position sensors, which offers position measurement specifically for cost-sensitive applications.

The redesign of the product family and the addition of two models incorporates the latest advances in magnetostrictive technology.

The original E-series sensor family was adapted as an alternative to linear potentiometers and multiple limit switches. As a position sensor that provided performance and reliability in a small package, it became and remains suitable for machine control and factory automation designers.

All the sensors now provide 0.01 mm resolution and repeatability, as well as 0.03% linearity deviation. The series provides backward compatibility with previous sensor versions. With a rugged construction, the device achieves minimum IP67 ratings as well as 100 g shock and 10 g vibration resistance.

The sensors feature analog (voltage or current) and start/stop output. The analog model is now capable of reporting two positions simultaneously when using two position magnets. The connectivity now features M12 connector cables.

Two new models are introduced with the series. A stainless-steel model EH provides a compact, rugged, rod-style package with either a 7 or 10 mm tube.

The EL, a low-profile version suitable for space-critical applications because of its height of 15 mm, can operate so that the magnet floats over the sensor’s head.
