Cellular RAM

Tuesday, 16 July, 2002

Infineon Technologies and Micron Technology are collaborating in developing specifications for CellularRAM memory, a family of low power pseudo static RAM (PSRAM) for wireless applications.

The device is designed to meet the memory and bandwidth demand in future 2.5G and 3G handset designs. It features SRAM-pin compatibility, refresh-free operation and low power design

The CellularRAM is a drop-in replacement for SRAM which is used in mobile phones. It is based on a single transistor DRAM cell which is claimed to enable larger memory size.

The product family includes a burst read and write mode that emulates a flash interface. It operates at clock rate of 108 MHz, has an initial latency of 60 ns and bandwidth of 210 MB/s.

Several CellularRAM devices are planned to be available in the next 12 months.
