Electronics industry switching on innovation

Monday, 09 July, 2001

Senator Richard Alston, discussed relevant industry issues as part of the Electronics Industry Action Agenda process with key representatives of the electronics industry in Sydney this past week.

Australia's electronics industry sector is increasingly being recognised as a smart, value-adding industry of the future.

The Government's decision to develop an Electronics Industry Action Agenda recognises the importance of the industry in providing a foundation for future economic growth.

Through the Electronics Industry Action Agenda the industry will work with Government to build its capacity, increase import replacement and further develop international markets.

The lastest development builds on the Federal Government's $2.9 billion Innovation Action Plan, Backing Australia's Ability, in assisting Australia's invigorated research sector to capitalise on innovative new technologies.
