P4 in Australia

Intel has launched its Pentium 4 processor for laptops and notebooks in Australia.

The Pentium 4-M processor is expected to be available at speeds of up to 1.5GHz and will incorporate the standard P4 NetBurst micro-architecture.

P4-M has a 400 MHz parallel system bus and will include Integrated LAN, audio and modem interfaces.

The Pentium4 launch also marks the start by Intel into wireless LAN (using the IEEE 802.11 standard). Intel expect a large proportion of future laptops to include the 2.4GHz 802.11b, the newer 5Ghz 802.11a or dual band connectivity. While 802.11b is has a maximum bandwidth of 11Mbps, 802.11a can go as high as 54Mbps.
